We took our videos that we filmed and opened up Final Cut Pro. We used Final Cut Pro as we were familiar with it from making our opening sequence in year 12. We then placed them in chronological order as we felt that although we are not telling the whole story in our trailer that the storyline would come across better if we did this. We had to make sure that we didn’t make our trailer to complicated as we decided not to have anyone narrating which is the case for many trailers. We used the blade tool to cut out any irrelevant parts of the video as we wanted our trailer to be short and entertaining without giving the whole storyline away. We came across an issue fairly soon into our editing process of our trailer, as we didn’t have all of the relevant scenes that we wanted to place in the trailer. This made it difficult to edit the videos we had as we had parts missing. We wanted our trailer to come across as scary yet thrilling and we wanted the audience to ask questions at the end of the trailer therefore, they would have to go and see the film to find out the answers to these questions. I think we did this well however, we had to cut down a lot of our material as at the beginning we had a long and boring trailer that seemed to drag on.
We then decided on starting to choose the music and sound effects for our trailer. We put in the beginning of Childish Gambino- Redbone to the start of our trailer as this sounded like a heart beat and made it seem that you could hear the victims heart beating. We also used sound effects at different intervals in our trailer as this made the trailer jumpy which, i think is important in a horror trailer. We then chose our main music. We found this extremely hard to do and went through many pieces of music before we found the one that we felt went well with our trailer. This was a cover of the song ‘Pink Matter’. Although this is not a usual song that you would associate with a horror, I think it worked well with our trailer and gave the trailer an eerie feel. We put in some text into our trailer to break the videos up. These added to the suspense of the trailer and again makes the audience ask questions about the motive of the characters. We put in a few transitions to make our trailer jumpy and that of a horror trailer nature. Although we did put transitions in we didn’t do as many as you would normally see in a horror trailer as we wanted ours to stay in the horror and thriller genre. We used an effect in our trailer, which was an effect that looked like it was a recording camera. I think this was effective as it showed a different perspective of our character. Lastly, Wai and I made and inserted in our end credits which had the name of our film at the end of our trailer. I think this is a reoccurring feature in trailers and allows the audience to see the social media links and then go and share what they thought of the trailer. |
